SCST-II Hydrogen Purification Machine by Methanol Reforming

Basic Principle

The desalted water in the raw material liquid tank are calculated and mixed with methanol to pass into heat exchanger pressurized by feeding pump. The raw material liquid exchanged heat with the decomposition gas in the heat exchanger, which enter the vaporizer after heating. In the vaporizer, the methanol and water continue to vaporize and overheat. Then the overheated mixed gas go in the reactor in which the reaction temperature is 230~280℃.

The decomposition and transformation reaction occur as following at the same time:

CH3OH→CO+2H2-Q1(1)

CO+H2O→CO2+H2+Q2(2)

Total reaction:CH3OH+H2O→CO2+3H2-Q     (3)

The total reaction is endothermic and the heat required by the reactor and the carburetor is provided by electrical heating. The decomposition gas (mainly hydrogen and carbon dioxide gas) from the reactor is heat exchanged with the feed in a heat exchanger. After cooled by heat exchange, the decomposition gas is further cooled by reticulating water in the cooler and then condensed so as to recycle the little desalted water and methanol to raw material liquid tank.  

After reforming, the reformed gas is purified by the pressure swing adsorption(PSA) apparatus to obtain hydrogen gas reaching purity of more than 99.9%. The PSA process of the device has the advantages of simple process, low investment, low energy consumption, high degree of automation, high product purity and low cost. It is more reliable, flexible and economical than the process of cryogenic separation and membrane separation. The entire adsorption separation cycle process is controlled by the PLC controller which is automated operation and device flexibility.
